Following a trip to Washington,
D.C., I asked my son, why he was
proud to be an American. His reply included "freedom of speech, freedom of
religion, the food, and being able to do what you want." At least he got a
couple of them right!
If you enjoy American History, DC is a great family
destination, because so many of the things to do are FREE! Free activities and
sightseeing in Washington, D.C. include:
National Museum of Natural
History National Museum

National Air and Space
Museum National
Museum of the American
Indian
Washington Monument Lincoln
Memorial
Jefferson
Memorial Korean and Vietnam War Memorials
Arlington
Cemetery Bureau of Engraving

Cool things that weren't free included: the Spy Museum,
(which housed my personal favorite- Soviet era lipstick gun) Ford’s Theater,
and the Segway Tour. We had burgers and shakes at Ollie’s Trolley, dinner at
The Russia House, Tony Cheng’s in Chinatown,
and even had German pretzels. So even though this trip was about American
history, we are the melting pot- a country rich in diversity. Maybe my son was
not wrong about the food after all.
