When choosing furniture (the crib, dresser, changing table,
rocking chair, etc.), think ahead. Ask yourself if it’s something you can use
for a second child, if the color is neutral, if it’s convertible, if it can be
used in a different room later. Some cribs convert to a toddler, and then a
full-size bed. The changing table may be a short dresser fitted with a changing
pad. When your child outgrows a changing table or you find that you don’t use
it, simply remove the changing pad. We chose a neutral light pine bedroom
set; one that could be used for a boy or girl. Think flexibility and re-use for
the nursery, especially for items that can be used again such as the changing
pad, sheets, and blankets. Here is a list of essential items for your
