Regardless of what type of adoption you are in:
international or domestic, as adoptive mother’s our lives are forever entangled
with our children’s birthmothers. Your child’s birthmother made a difficult
choice that has given you a child to love forever. Without her, many of us
would not be mothers. I am humbled and at the strength of these courageous
women who gave their child the gift of life knowing that they could not parent
their child.
Mother's Day can be a difficult
day for birthmothers. While celebrating
your own motherhood on May 10, take a moment to show your child’s birthmother
that you remember her: Light a candle, say a prayer, send her a note, and if
your children are old enough to participate include them in the process.
